The Travessia Story

One fateful day, sometime in 2006, whilst collecting coconuts...

… from his piece of land at the beach of Cumbana Agricola, Senhor David bumped into some mzungu strangers in a Landrover, who were looking for land to build a beach lodge in Mozambique. He connected them with the rest of the land owners in the village, who were equally interested in embarking on this project.

Dave and Anne Rudge spent two years in a tent in the palm grove of Travessia, worked their way through acquiring the necessary permits and set up the initial infrastructure. They eventually ran out of funds and had to move back to South Africa. Two years later, now a family of four, they ventured out to find people to help them grow and turn Travessia into a reality.

Meanwhile...

... Haje Dawn and Angela Naumann juggled kids, careers and coffees in Cape Town, envisioning and mentally preparing themselves for a gap year filled with creative and purposeful adventures in far-away lands, when they bumped into the Rudges. One site visit later, they proposed a concept, then scaled down other commitments to get themselves onto a new project…

Travessia is the result of a beautiful spot in the South of Mozambique, a vision, and a great team of people who made it happen, on and off site.
